Public Notice - Leaking Storage Tank Petroleum Cleanup Project
Hyrum Shortstop, 325 W Main Street, Hyrum, Utah
The Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DERR) is planning to oversee the remediation of petroleum-contaminated soil at the above site. The environmental consultant for this project is Rockwell Solutions, Inc. The Hyrum Shortstop is located at 325 W Main Street, Hyrum, Utah. Fuel releases have been reported from the above ground storage tanks in July 2024 and March 2025. Contaminated soil and groundwater were removed in the spring and summer of 2025. Some contaminated soil and groundwater remain.
The proposed remediation method is impacted groundwater removal and soil excavation.
The following tasks will take place:
1) Pump water out of the 2025 excavation into frac tanks
2) Treat the water with carbon filtration
3) Discharge the treated water into the inflow of surface water at Salt Hollow Park
4) Excavate impacted soil (see attached figure)
5) Dispose of impacted soil at the Logan City landfill
6) Backfill the excavation Remediation activities are planned for mid-August 2026 and will take approximately three weeks to complete.
