Past Program Sessions
June 10 Session – The Magic of Magnetism
Dr. Joshua Knobloch from the Department of Physics at Utah State University will explain why magnetism is one of nature’s fundamental forces—powering everything from motors and electrical generators to computer storage and medical imaging.
In this session, young explorers will dive into the science of magnets: how they interact, their connection to electricity, and how invisible magnetic fields can be revealed using a fascinating liquid called ferrofluid.
July 8th Session - Angular Momentum
Dr. Joshua Knobloch from the Department of Physics at Utah State University will explore some fascinating questions: Why are tops well balanced when spinning? How do ice skaters rotate quickly during their jumps?
The answer lies in angular momentum—a principle scientists use in everything from keeping planes stable to predicting weather patterns and the motion of planets.
In this session of Hyrum Explorers, we’ll bring angular momentum to life through exciting, hands-on “whirly” demonstrations that will twist our minds around this spinning subject.
August 12th Session - The Power of Mathematics
Hyrum City Civic Center: 83 W Main St, Hyrum, UT 84319
Second Tuesday of the Month at 6PM
Come join Mathnasium for an hour of Math Fun! Our enthusiastic Mathnasium Instructors will lead you through engaging math games and reveal some fascinating math magic tricks. This interactive session is designed for explorers aged 4-11 and their parents to discover the fun side of mathematics. We look forward to sparking a love for learning and showing you how exciting math can be!
