The Bear River Area Agency on Aging (a division of BRAG, the Bear River Association of Governments) is the organization primarily responsible for the welfare of older adults throughout Cache, Box Elder, and Rich counties. They offer various forms of assistance, including a Veterans Service Officer, In-home supportive living programs, caregiver support, advocacy for residents of long term care facilities, and free and objective consultations about Medicare and Medicaid with their trained SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) counselors. Visit their website or contact them at 435-713-1467 for more information.
We at the Hyrum Senior Center serve primarily those living at the south end of Cache Valley (but we happily receive all who want to visit!). For those a bit further north in Cache Valley, the Cache County Senior Center, located in Logan, is also available to serve older adults (age 60 and up) throughout Cache County with meals Monday through Friday, and a variety of engaging activities and events. They're located at 240 N 100 E in Logan, and are open M-F from 8:30am-4:00pm. They are also the county's resource for:
Meals on Wheels. This program delivers hot meals at lunchtime to homebound older adults throughout Cache Valley Monday through Friday, using a small army of dedicated volunteers. For more information on either receiving meals or volunteering for the program, visit their website or call the Cache County Senior Center at 435-755-1720 to talk to one of their Meals on Wheels staff.
Other nearby Senior Centers include two more towards the northern end of Cache Valley in Smithfield and Richmond, and two to the west in Box Elder county, located in Brigham City and Tremonton.
Those that might benefit from food assistance are advised to visit the Cache Community Food Pantry, which has a variety of resources to assist those who would benefit from food support. The Cache County Senior Center (contact info above) can also connect older adults that have financial limitations with a monthly food box from the Utah Food Bank.
Those serving as caregivers for older adults may want to know about the various Caregiver Support Groups available, including some specialized for those caring for individuals with dementia.
